Founder and Attorney
Geoffrey Heffernan is an attorney and the founder of O'HEFFERNAN LLC, a New York law practice. Prior to forming O'HEFFERNAN LLC, he worked at Hess Corp. for more than a decade negotiating and advising on documentation related to market making, hedging, and proprietary trading in energy commodities and associated derivatives, as well as credit risk mitigation products, including those involving power, natural gas, oil and petroleum products traded in markets including New York, London, or Singapore. In addition to contract negotiation, he has prepared energy service company federal and state regulatory filings, advised on a bespoke federal banking regulatory matter, and provided legal support to an agricultural technology company. Mr. Heffernan is active in industry organizations, has spoken at various events, including those hosted by the IECA, NAEMA, ISDA, EEI, and the NY State Bar Association Derivatives and Structured Products Law Committee. He is an active participant in IECA working groups including those focused on regulations and on credit support, and he is the Chair of the IECA Contract Provision Review (CPR) Working Group, which was formed in 2015. He is a Member of the Energy Committee of the New York City Bar Association. He is licensed to practice law in the state of New York, and is a graduate of Rutgers College and Pace University School of Law.
