Jason Lewis has extensive experience with energy trading and marketing, including with respect to electric power, renewables, natural gas, refined petroleum products, and crude oil. Jason has represented electric generation projects powered by wind, solar energy, natural gas, and coal, as well as tolling counterparties and providers of energy management services. Jason has negotiated and documented derivative transactions with respect to commodities, interest rates, currencies, and equities. Jason also has significant in-house “trade desk” experience. As a secondee following his return to private practice in 2014, Jason assisted a major oil refiner with respect to its formation and development of an organization to trade refined petroleum products and crude oil. Before returning to private practice, he was inside counsel for the energy and commodities businesses of two financial institutions, and represented them with respect to a wide range of transactions for electric energy, capacity, ancillary services, natural gas, renewable energy certificates, agricultural products, and metals, including an equally broad range of derivative transactions. He is well versed in standard trading documentation including the ISDA Master Agreement, EEI Master Power Purchase and Sale Agreement, NAESB Base Contract for Sale and Purchase of Natural Gas, LEAP Master Agreement for Purchasing and Selling Refined Petroleum Products and Crude Oil, and the WSPP Agreement. He also has advised clients with respect to the regulations of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Jason is a member and former co-chair of the Edison Electric Institute Contract Drafting Committee, which authored the EEI Master Power Purchase and Sale Agreement in 1999 and continues to update and maintain the agreement.
